The French daily newspaper Le Figaro put the Island of Lopud at the top of their list of perfect Mediterranean paradises to recharge your batteries this summer, leaving even Greek Santorini and their own Corsica behind.
The article points out Lopud Island as being the most interesting of the 13 Elafiti Islands. Blessed with sandy beaches, filled with elegant villas, churches and old buildings, covered with lush subtropical vegetation they describe it as a true Adriatic Sea gem.
What especially drew their attention was the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of the Cave, commonly known as Gospa od Špilice, located on the northern tip of the island. It has been overlooking Lopud for centuries and is nowadays converted into the luxury Lopud 1483 hotel. The monastery has been divided into 5 suites decorated with Renaissance furniture, works of art from the private collection of the Thyssen-Bornemisza family.
“With its fortifications and gardens, the monastery today is suitable for a family vacation, relaxing with friends or for organizing seminars and similar events. It is suitable for numerous activities such as yoga, massages, meditation or excursions, ” the magazine concludes.
The serenity of life, without being reclusive, enchanted them so much making Lopud Island the number one Mediterranean paradise and a perfect spot for an ideal vacation.
