One of Dubrovnik’s most beautiful historic settings will become a stage of light, sound and summer magic this Friday evening, as Lumiart offers a preview of its new festival edition in front of Sponza Palace.
On Friday, 19 June, from 9:30 pm to 11:15 pm, the space in front of Sponza Palace will be transformed into an open-air audiovisual scene, bringing together light, image, electronic music and the unmistakable ambience of Dubrovnik’s Old City.
A Glimpse of What Awaits This Autumn
The evening is designed as a special introduction to this year’s Lumiart Festival of Light, which will take place in Dubrovnik at the end of October.
Visitors will be the first to discover the official dates of the autumn festival, as well as Lumiart’s new visual identity. More than a simple announcement, the event will offer a taste of the atmosphere that will once again fill the city with projections, light installations and immersive visual experiences.
After last year’s fifth edition, which brought contemporary light art into Dubrovnik’s public spaces, Lumiart is now opening a new chapter, one that promises to connect the city’s heritage with technology, creativity and the magic of light.
Inspired by Marin Getaldić
A special part of this year’s festival will be dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the death of Marin Getaldić, one of Dubrovnik’s most important scientists, mathematicians and physicists.
His world of light, optics, mirrors, geometry and natural laws will serve as inspiration for a programme that will turn Dubrovnik into a place of artistic experiment and visual discovery.
Where History Meets Light
For one evening, the area in front of Sponza Palace will feel almost like a scene from a fairytale — a place where stone, music and light meet under the summer sky.
Lumiart will once again bring together contemporary art, technology, heritage and public space, inviting visitors and locals to experience Dubrovnik in a different, more imaginative way.
The event is organised by the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, in cooperation with Pixel Design, which is also responsible for the production, technical implementation and overall realisation of the programme.
