‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ With Croatian Twist

Ana Sarić and Melkior Serdarević participated as Set Designers in the Creation of the Film

Filmmakers Association of Croatia members Ana Sarić and Melkior Serdarević participated as set designers in the creation of the film ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, directed by Edward Berger. At the 95th Oscar Awards ceremony of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the film ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ won as many as four Oscars, for the best international film, scenography, film music and film photography.

Ana and Melkior worked with scenographer Christian Goldbeck on the development of military trenches and a camp that were later built in the Czech Republic. After graduating from the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, they both started working on film. The first project was Game of Thrones, and thanks to the famous Croatian scenographer Nenad Pečur, they worked on the Hollywood blockbuster Uncharted, which was shot in the Babelsberg studio in Berlin. After a successfully completed job, the next project was ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’.

Ana and Melkior are currently in Ouarzazate, Morocco, where they are working with the famous designer Arthur Max on Ridley Scott’s new film.

Filmmakers Association of Croatia is the oldest and the largest filmmakers’ association in Croatia, HDFD has been caring for the dignity and wellbeing of Croatian profesional filmmakers for more than 70 years and is an important factor in creation of Croatian filmmaking.
