An intimate and intuitive ‘biography’ of a Dubrovnik painter

The 63rd Dubrovnik Summer Festival in collaboration with the State Archives in Dubrovnik will open an exhibition of works by Josip Pino Trostmann entitled An Intimate and Intuitive ‘Biography’ of a Dubrovnik Painter on Thursday, 2nd August at 9.00 pm in the Sponza Palace Atrium.

After the exhibition of paintings and tapestries by Dubrovnik artist Romana Milutin Fabris, the Dubrovnik Summer Festival will host another exhibition by a famous Dubrovnik artist who will also mark the 50th anniversary of his artistic career. Already as a ten-year-old boy Josip Pino Trostmann attended portraiture classes given by famous Ivo Dulčić. He graduated from the Fine Arts Academy in Zagreb in the classes of Professors Tiljak and Režek. During his entire career he has taught numerous students who are now well-established artists. Up until now he has had approximately one hundred solo exhibitions in Croatia and abroad and he has also participated in many prestigious collective exhibitions. His works can be seen in numerous museums, galleries and private collection all over the world.

The exhibition will feature a selection of his works created from 2000 until 2012. Thirteen big-format oils on canvas with a unique Trostmann colour atmosphere take our breath away with their firework of colours – The height of SummerMinčeta at DuskTropical Beach and Neglected Garden. In this last one the colours are so calm and soothing that they provoke excitement of our most hidden senses. Pino’s paintings never neglect Mediterranean and Dubrovnik elements which subdue everything else and this is one of the reasons why Trostmann remains one of the most popular Dubrovnik painters.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 17th August.
