Beloved Dubrovnik Artist Ivo Grbić Passes Away Aged 89

Mister Ivo Grbić, famous Dubrovik painter and graphic artists, sadly passed away this Sunday at the age of 89.  He was one of the greatest Dubrovnik artists, ubiquitous in the cultural and social life of the City.

Mister Grbić stood out with his graphic solutions of the official coat of arms and the official flag of the City of Dubrovnik, which have been used since 1993. He is the author of numerous plaques that have been used on various occasions by the City of Dubrovnik and its public institutions, such as the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

He put his signature on numerous liturgical vestments and flags used in our parishes and as an excellent graphic designer, without the help of modern technology, he made posters, magazine, book covers, catalogs, and brochures. The years of dedicated work earned him several recognitions and awards, among which the Lifetime Achievement Award of the City of Dubrovnik from 2001.

Many of our fellow citizens are saying goodbye to the well-loved Dubrovnik artist, amongst them Mayor Mato Franković, pointing out how ‘another gentleman of Dubrovnik had left us’.

“Mister Ivo Grbić was not only the soul of the City, he was also the seal of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Dear Mister Ivo, we will try to make the memory of you live forever. Goodbye to you! And thank you for everything you have given your City,” Franković added.
