Today is the last day of the Aklapela festival, the festival that nourishes the authentic klapa singing. The annual gathering of the most accomplished klapas will end with a traditional gift concert to the city of Dubrovnik (free entrance concert). In the Church of St. Dominic from noon onwards (12.00 h), all visitors will be able to listen concerts of the best Croatian klapa groups: Cesarice from Zagreb, Cuvite from Solta island, Draca from Mostar, Fa Lindo, Kase and Subrenum from Dubrovnik, Kurjoze and Praska from Podstrana, Mriza and Versi from (Split), Munita from Zadar, Vincace from Novi Vinodolski. The songs will not be accompanied by instruments, and with little or no help of amplifiers. In the same way, or a way similar to the authentic one of performing Croatian traditional klapa song.
Klapa singing has been added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at the seventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Paris from December 3rd to 7th 2012. (www.aklapela.hr)
