Carnival Spirit Took Over the City: Coloured Faces and Masks are Smiling from Every Corner

The mask party took over the keys of City and Dubrovnik Carnival 2022 had officially started.

The conveniently arranged entrance to Luža was the perfect place for the opening ceremony this Friday with the parade of ‘Pile’ and ‘Izviđač’ kindergarteners in the sweetest of costumes. The Lazareti Dance Studio performed a stunning dance number, and the film “Twenty Years of the Dubrovnik Carnival” by Zvonimir Bašica (VSP Video) along with the one about last year’s performance of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra at the Dubrovnik Carnival were shown on a screen placed above the entrance to Luža.

But this Saturday morning was especially cheerful. Policemen, Spidermans, melons, princesses and numerous other fantasy creatures occupied the entire main street. Special attention was drawn to the Majorettes of the City of Dubrovnik and the City Music Parade, of course, in a mask edition of their own. Everyone had a great time at the ‘Coffee in masques’, after which caffe bars ‘Cele’ and ‘Congo’ organized a happy hour from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Our photographer Zvonimir kept a close eye on the party diligently recording it for our colourful photo gallery.
