Croatia celebrates Victory day

The Republic of Croatia celebrates Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian defenders today. This day is a memorial to the military Operation Storm and retaking of Knin on today’s date in 1995.

Operations Storm and Flash were the key ones that brought an end to the Homeland War. More than 200,000 Croatian soldiers retook more than 10,000 square metres of territory under siege that ended the bloody war.

After the Operation Storm, the only territory that remained under siege was Eastern Slavonia that was returned by peaceful re-integration without any military operations.

Operation Storm started in dawn on August 4 and it took only 84 hours to retake 18.4% of total Croatian territory.
