Having results 3.4% better than last year, Croatia has the highest increase in tourist industry of all Mediterranean countries. In July this year, there are 1.66% more arrivals and 5.59% more overnights.
The highest rise is recorded in Dubrovnik-Neretva County, while the Istria County can boast the best tourist results ever. There is 9% more tourists there than in the same period last year.
The most represented tourists come from Germany but visitors from the Netherlands are also growing in numbers amounting to 21% more. ‘All the numbers are a big success,’ says Veljko Ostojić, the Minister of Tourism.
In the first five months of 2012, Croatia earned 6.1 billion Kuna in tourism, which is 4% more than in the same period last year. This year, 12.9 thousand people have been employed in tourist industry.
Cyprus, Malta, Turkey, Greece and Italy record negative trends in the first six months this year. The growth in tourism is only noticeable in Spain and it amounts to 2.9%.
