The First United Flight of the Season Lands in Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is once again directly connected with New York. The first United Airlines aircraft from New York/Newark landed at Ruđer Bošković Airport on Friday, May 1, marking the return of the seasonal route between Dubrovnik and the United States.
With the first flight of the season, the city has reopened one of its most important long-haul connections — a direct summer link with the American market.
A Direct Link With the American Market
The United Airlines route connects New York/Newark and Dubrovnik, giving travellers from the United States a much easier way to reach the south of Croatia. Instead of changing planes in major European hubs, American visitors can fly directly to Dubrovnik and start their holiday on the Adriatic immediately.
For Dubrovnik, this connection has become one of the most important long-haul seasonal routes. It brings the city closer to one of its key overseas markets and strengthens its position as an international destination during the busiest months of the year.
Daily Flights During the Summer Season
United’s Dubrovnik–New York/Newark route has grown in importance over the past few years. The airline previously announced the expansion of its seasonal service, increasing the route from four weekly flights to daily operations for summer 2025, which represented a major increase in available seats.
This daily rhythm is what makes the connection especially valuable. It does not only serve occasional travellers, but creates a stable seasonal bridge between Dubrovnik and the United States. For American guests, Dubrovnik becomes easier to plan, easier to reach and easier to include in wider European itineraries.
More Than One Flight
The return of the United route is also part of a wider story about Croatia’s growing visibility in the American travel market. This year, United has also launched a seasonal route between New York/Newark and Split, operating three times per week, alongside its established Dubrovnik service. Together, the two routes give American travellers more flexibility when planning a Croatian holiday — arriving in one Dalmatian city and departing from another.
For Dubrovnik, this does not reduce the importance of the New York connection. Quite the opposite: it confirms that southern Croatia and the wider Adriatic coast are increasingly present on the American travel map.
A Stronger Bridge Across the Atlantic
The United route is especially important because American travellers often stay longer, plan more complex itineraries and show strong interest in culture, gastronomy, heritage, island trips and high-quality experiences.
A direct flight from New York/Newark also opens Dubrovnik to a much wider network of passengers. Newark is one of United’s major hubs, meaning that travellers from many parts of the United States can connect through New York/Newark and continue directly to Dubrovnik.
For the city, this means more than arrivals at the airport. It means stronger links with a valuable tourism market, greater international recognition and a longer, more dynamic summer season.
Across the Ocean, Straight to Dubrovnik
With the return of the direct New York/Newark route, Dubrovnik is once again just one flight away for many American travellers. The journey from the United States to the Adriatic is simpler, faster and perfectly timed for the summer season.
For Dubrovnik, every landing is a reminder of how strongly the city continues to attract visitors from across the Atlantic.
