Dubrovnik’s newest exhibition opened last night in the Old Town at the Ethnographic Museum. The full exhibition ‘Two lay down-one arose! Magic symbols of fertility, luck and protection against spells’ exhibition will run until November 5th.
Embroidered and woven bed covers form the basis of the exhibition, traditionally woven by a bride to be for her first night as a married woman. The woven bed covers represent women’s writing with messages of love and eroticism. Pavica Vilać, Director of Dubrovnik Museums stressed the importance of such an exhibition at the opening, ‘ This exhibition represents the best of our cultural heritage, helping us to understand and respect it better.’
With colourful pieces dating back to 1893 the exhibition is well worth a visit. For more information on Dubrovnik Museums click here.
