Filming of The Islander Back in Dubrovnik

Apart from being a world known tourist destination, Dubrovnik has proven to be a paradise for filmmakers several times already. The crew of “The Islander” returned to Dubrovnik to shoot a sequel to the popular film nearly two years after filming the original part at the same location.

„Due to the positive experiences of previous productions in Dubrovnik, such as ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Robin Hood’, Dubrovnik and Croatia have been charted on the map of promising film locations,“ said the producer Neb Chupin emphasizing Croatia as an extremely popular destination in Hollywood circles. The filming in Dubrovnik, portraying the city of Argos, amongst others takes place at some of our most popular fortresses Bokar and Lovrjenac.

Shooting in the conditions of the “new normal” reflects in all work segments and demands an organization that no one could ever imagine. “Safety bubbles”, carefully chosen contacts and special safety suits are all part of the repertoire.

“It is really ironic that two years after filming the first part of the apocalyptic story ‘The Islander’ we find ourselves in a moment marked by another type of social apocalypse – uncertainty. The extraordinary shooting conditions on the set caused by coronavirus give the whole project a special character,” Chupin added.

More than 200 people, film crew, extras and workers have been involved in filming of „The Islander 2“. James Cosmo, best known for his role in the cult film Brave Heart, Caroline Goodall, who starred in Schindler’s list, Jim Sweeney from the Outlander series and Jamie Wilson from Blade II were just some of the well know names staring in the original part of this popular post-apocalyptic movie.
