A film about winemaker Miljenko ‘Mike’ Grgich made by Croatian Television opened the Napa Valley Film Festival last week. The documentary “Like the old vine” looks at the 89 year old’s extraordinary life beginning with his childhood in Desne, near Metković and his emigration to the United States where his career in wine making took off.
Grgich has received numerous awards for his wines including the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay which won best chardonnay at the famous ‘Paris Tasting’. This award for Mike’s american made chardonnay shook the wine world and help to shine a spotlight on the Napa Valley.
After 36 years Mike opened his first winery in Croatia, not far from Dubrovnik on the peninsula of Pelješac.
