High Diplomacy Meeting in Dubrovnik: Croatian Leaders Meet US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo

The US Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo arrives in Dubrovnik this Friday. Being the highest ranked official of the US administration who is visiting Croatia since Donald Trump entered the White House, he is to meet up with the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman.

It is at that meeting that the Secretary of State Pompeo is expected to announce whether Croatia has satisfied all the conditions to enter a visa-free regime with the US, a rather pressing issue that has not been resolved in more than three decades. Croatia has managed to achieve its goal and has had 2,000 holders of the Croatian passport request and successfully obtain visas for the United States in less than a month. During the meeting, Pompeo, Plenković and the ministers will discuss opportunities for an even closer cooperation between the two countries in key areas of common interest, including defence cooperation issues, the increase of US investments in Croatia and Croatia’s great efforts to strengthen Western Balkan integrations. Special security and safety measures have been implemented throughout the city and will be in place during their entire stay in Dubrovnik.
