Let the Games Begin: The 72nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival is Officially Open

It was yet another spectacular opening of the much anticipated 72nd Dubrovnik Summer Festival. The sounds of the “Hymn of Liberty” whilst raising the Libertas flag, most definitely brought great joy and a certain amount of relief to all our fellow citizens present in front of the St. Blaise church, as well as ones watching from home, after this long and tumultuous year.

Meticulously directed by Hrvoje Korbar, the Opening Ceremony fused the traditional elements of our heritage with modern day art featuring splendid performances of the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Stjepan Vuger, the percussion quartet Percussion Club, and Linđo Folklore Ensemble joined by the Festival Drama Ensemble and the drama and dance students of the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts.

But no Opening Ceremony is ever complete without the traditional fireworks that follow at its completion, wrapping up the celebratory evening and bringing everything together.

During the 47 days of the Festival, all Dubrovnik and art lovers will be able to enjoy about 70 drama, music, dance, and other performances on 15 stages and site-specific locations in and around Dubrovnik.
