A total of 19 pedestrian crossings have recently been renewed in Dubrovnik, with red-and-white markings introduced to make them more noticeable to drivers and improve safety in everyday traffic.
A Citywide Safety Upgrade
The latest works were carried out in Andrije Hebranga Street, the most recent location included in a wider city effort focused on pedestrian safety.
Rather than a one-off intervention, this is part of a broader programme aimed at making pedestrian crossings more visible and improving traffic safety in areas with heavy vehicle and foot traffic.
Designed to Be Easier to Notice
In addition to refreshed markings, the crossings were highlighted with red surfacing so they stand out more clearly on the road. The goal is to make them easier for drivers to notice and to improve safety for pedestrians in everyday traffic.
A total of 19 crossings have been renewed as part of the latest phase of works.
Raised Crossings at Three Locations
Three raised pedestrian crossings were also installed as part of the project. These are located at the junctions with Sustjepanska Street, Antuna Gustava Matoša Street and Od Gale Street.
Unlike standard crossings, raised pedestrian crossings also help reduce vehicle speed, adding another layer of safety in busy urban areas.
Focus on Everyday Safety
According to the City of Dubrovnik, the renewed and additionally marked crossings are part of broader measures aimed at improving safety for all road users.
Particular attention has been placed on more vulnerable groups, especially children and older residents, given the dense residential character of this part of the city and the frequency of traffic.
The City of Dubrovnik has also announced that similar upgrades will soon continue in Petra Krešimira IV Street, Frana Supila Street and Zagrebačka Street.
