Restaurant Dubrovnik Opens In New York

Zeljko Tomic has recently opened a new restaurant in New York that’s dedicated to the best in Dubrovnik and Croatian cuisine.

‘’I decided to open a restaurant in honour of my mother Tereza who is the best cook in the world using old recipes from Dubrovnik and Croatia.’’

”I would like my American friends and Croatian emigrants to enjoy food with a scent of the Mediterranean, the most beautiful Adriatic sea and with the tradition of the wealthy and the poor because all of them had food on their tables that we today call traditional and the tastiest on earth.” Explained Zeljko Tomsic at the opening of his Croatian restaurant in New York.

Born on Lopud Island, Tomic enjoyed the delights of home grown tomatoes and locally produced olive oil in his childhood, something which he took with him when he moved to New York in 1988. Tomic together with his wife and six children, enjoys bringing those scents and palates to life in his New Rochelle restaurant near New York. The restaurant is named ‘Dubrovnik’ Tomic says, after the most beautiful city in the world.

Tomic visited his mother Tereza in Dubrovnik a few months ago, determined to have all her delicious recipes down on paper for the restaurant, ”She has everything in her head. Her wold rabbit with grape is finger lickin’ good…Mum learned her kitchen screts from my grandmother who passed away eight years ago so we are continuing the tradition across the Atlantic.”

Even the New Rochelle Mayor, Noam Bransom has enjoyed the delights of Restaurant Dubrovnik, ‘I tasted some fantastic dishes and enjoyed Croatian wine and cheese. We have gained a place for socialising and getting to know Croatiia and I wish ‘Dubrovnik’ great success.”
