Rob Martineau, Tom Stancliffe and Guy Hacking are three young men from England who on Friday afternoon completed a truly gruelling challenge in Dubrovnik. The three set about fundraising for the British based charity Love 146 several months ago on the back of their plan to run 1000 miles from Odessa in the Ukraine to Dubrovnik. Their arrival on the Stradun on Friday afternoon marked the end of 33 days of running and the equivalent of 39 marathons.
The money they have raised so far, an impressive 140,ooo GBP, will go towards the building of a centre for victims of human trafficking. The trio and their followers were greeted by friends, family and supporters yesterday waving banners in front of St. Blaise’s Church at the finish line. Tom told press that the guys were very happy to finally be in Dubrovnik, ”One of the most beautiful views that we’ve seen has been the one from the hill above Dubrovnik.”
The three will lead a 16 km race today from Cavtat with over 200 runners joining them. An after party is organised for tonight at Banje Beach just outside of Dubrovnik to celebrate the group’s huge achievement.
At a press conference held at the Hilton Imperial Hotel the trio told press that following the race they had no other plans, which after such a long time running to schedule made for a strange feeling.
