Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ in Skocibuha Summer Residence

Last year’s premiere title , ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare, directed by Jagos Markovic and performed by the Festival Drama Ensemble, is on the program of the 66th Dubrovnik Summer Festival on 17th and 18th of August at 9:30 pm in the Renaissance Skocibuha Summer Residence on Boninovo.

‘Romeo and Juliet’ by William Shakespeare is a timeless play with which the Festival marked the last year’s 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth. One of the greatest love stories ever to be told and one of the well-known tragedies, a story about love and death, but mostly about love trying to escape the web of hate in order to survive and win in death, expectedly caused a huge interest of the audience. The Festival audience was so thrilled that every performance was awarded with ovations and grandiose applause.
Romeo and Juliet” is directed by Jagoš Marković who signs the set design and music, the text adaptation based on the translation of Josip Torbarina was made by Aleksandra Glovacki, costume design by Leo Kulas and lighting design by Radomir Stamenkovic.

Festival Ensemble won the audience sympathies with the brilliant performances of Robert Budak and Kristina Stevovic as Romeo and Juliet, Zarko Savic, Jelena Percin, Sinisa Popovic, Natasa Janjic, Neva Rosic, Boris Svrtan, Amar Bukvic, Ivan Glowatzky, Stefan Kapicic, Goran Grgic, Andrej Dojkic, Robert Boskovic, Matko Knesaurek and Nikola Sekulo. Dado Cosica has been replaced by Ivan Cuic in the role of Paris. The critics and the audience were thrilled with effective and believable scenes of fencing accredited to Lovro Buva, the master swordsman who trained the actors.
