Former Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova is currently resting in Dubrovnik and judging by her social media photos she is having a ball. The winner of five Grand Slam tournaments recorded the details of her stay in the City, enjoying Dubrovnik history while visiting the oldest pharmacy in Europe – the famous Franciscan pharmacy in the Old Town, and the glorious church of St. Ignatius, one of the most lavishing sacral monuments inside the walls. Gorgeous traditional jewellery and lace handwork also seem to have caught her eye, sharing it with her 4 million Instagram followers.
Turning pro at only 14, the former tennis World number 1 enjoyed a fascinating career. She had won 36 singles titles in her career, including five Grand Slam championships: Wimbledon, the US Open, the Australian Open and two French Opens. The legendary Olympic silver medallist retired form professional tennis in 2020 and devoted herself to other curiosities of life such as her highly successful premium candy line ‘Sugarpova’.
