The ballet is based on a subversive and controversial novel ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, and represents a critique of the French aristocracy of the 18th century, directed against the monarchy of the ancient régime. The novel was turned into a movie in the 20th century. There were many film productions of ‘Dangerous Connections’, but one of the most famous ones is certainly the one directed by Stephen Frears, with Glenn Close as a marquise, John Malkovich as Valmont and Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame de Tourvel.
The world premiere of the ballet ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ is on the program of the Games, scheduled for August 20th, with additional performances on the 21st and 22nd August.
