In the co-production of Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Festival Ljubljana and the Slovenian National Theatre Maribor, the neo-baroque ballet ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, choreographed and directed by Valentina Turcu and Lea Mujic, will be premiered as part of the VIP program of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. This will be the first time in history that ballet is performed at the Festival. The Dangerous Liaisons are scheduled for the 20th of August at Boskovic Square.
The ballet is based on a subversive and controversial novel ‘Dangerous Liaisons’, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, and represents a critique of the French aristocracy of the 18th century, directed against the monarchy of the ancient régime. In it, the author narrates about the cruel game of seduction and conquest, exposes demonic figures which oppose sensible world of virtuous Madame de Tourvel. The novel was turned into a movie in the 20th century. There were many film productions of ‘Dangerous Connections’, but one of the most famous ones is certainly the one directed by Stephen Frears, with Glenn Close as a marquise, John Malkovich as Valmont and Michelle Pfeiffer as Madame de Tourvel.
The world premiere of the ballet ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ is on the program of the Games, scheduled for August 20th, with additional performances on the 21st and 22nd August. After that the play will be presented at the Festival Krizanke in Ljubljana on August the 28th and on the 7th November at the SNG Maribor.
