Upon its arrival into Gruz harbour, the cruiser MSC Armonia officially opened the season for big cruise ships on round trips in Dubrovnik.
The boat, which came in the city last Monday, transported 1462 passengers and 686 crew members. This is considered a great number for the opening of the 2014 season.
”According to the planned arrivals for the year, Gruz port is expecting around 790,000 passengers. Dubrovnik in general is expecting 835,000 passengers, including the ships anchoring in front of Lokrum”, said Antun Asić, director of the Port of Dubrovnik, adding that there will be a few ships arriving in Dubrovnik for the first time, such as the Princess Cruises’ Regal Princess and Tui Cruises’ Mein Schiff. These ships are expected to return to Dubrovnik another seven or eight times this year as Dubrovnik will become part of their itinerary.
”Large ships, such as MSC Preziosa of MSC Croceire, will sail into the port of Gruz 31 times this year. Therefore, despite the fact that we will not be setting new records, we believe that this year will be successful for the Port of Dubrovnik as well as for all the businesses involved in cruise ship tourism.” Concluded Asić.
