Croatia Best Short Haul Destination

Croatian Minister for Tourism, Veljko Ostojić, received the Travel Agents Choice Award in the category ”Up and Coming Short Haul Destination” at the World Travel Market exhibition in London on Monday.   The Travel Agents  Choice Awards are organised by BMI publishing whose publication Selling Long Haul is the leading magazine in the industry. Croatia’s award is of particular significance as it is the only prize at the awards that is decided exclusively by tourism professionals in Great Britain.

Meri Matešić, the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board was also present for the award ceremony and expressed her pride at Croatia’s recognition by the Bristish market, “The British are satisfied guests, but they know very well what they want and what they are paying for. This award gives us reason for additional optimism for results from the British market for the season ahead of us.”

Together with Minister Ostojić,  Mrs. Matešić presented the latest offer on the Croatian market, focusing on gastronomy and wine. TV wine expert Joe Wadsack helped present some of Croatia’s finest wines at the exhibition, including graševina, plavac and malvazija.

This year has been an extremely successful one for Croatia’s tourist industry, with a 23 per cent rise in the number of guests from Britain alone. Next October will see Dubrovnik host 700 travel specialists at the annual ABTA conference, further recognition of the country’s increasing appeal.
