Dubrovnik Makes Virtual Tourist’s Top Ten

Travel website Virtual Tourist recently ran a competition asking visitors to the site to vote for their ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’. Dubrovnik made the shortlist along with an impressive list of candidates including Guatemala’s Tikal National Park and the Great Blue Hole in Belize. The winner was announces as Torres del Paine National Park in Chile, ”a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for its lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and granite towers.”

Dubrovnik made the top ten of the final list described by the site as, ”Known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is settled on the south point of the Dalmatian coast in Croatia. A UNESCO protected site, it is an example of a well preserved late-medieval walled city.” The only other European candidates to make the top ten were Slovenia’s Skocjan Caves which ”international scientific circles have acknowledged…as an Earth treasure”, and Dunnottar Castle in Scotland.
