All of Croatia has woken to the news that Dubrovnik teen tennis star, Ana Konjuh, has won the junior girls Australian Open title- her first Grand Slam title in her career.

In the early hours of the morning (Croatian time) Konjuh swept to victory against her opponent Czech Katerina Siniakova 6:3, 6:4 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Ana opened the match fantastically at 3:0 finishing the set after just 26 minutes at 6:3 with a 77 per cent serve success rate.  In the second set Siniakova managed to lead 4:1 at one point but Konjuh managed to win an astonishing 5 more games to ultimately defeat the Czech.

Talking to press after her victory Konjuh said, “The feeling is unbelievable…Experience, fans, its all a big thing. I tried hard to concentrate on my game, to not look at the fans and other things. I hope I’ll come back here in the future.”

Despite Ana being only 15 this is her third title in the past 12 months following victories at the Eddie Herr tournament and the Orange Bowl. Monday will see Ana climb to the top of the junior girls’ world rankings, and undoubtedly a huge welcome when she returns to home city of Dubrovnik.
