Midsummer scene brings Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ to Dubrovnik

For the second year in a row, Dubrovnik will host an interesting festival called Midsummer scene. The new season brings Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ to Dubrovnik. The play will be staged in one of the world’s most evocative and atmospheric venues Fort Lovrijenac, from 20th June to 4th of July. The performances will be held every evening starting at 9.30 pm.
Midsummer Scene is a new Croatian festival aiming to appeal to a wider international audience visiting Dubrovnik every summer. The festival is aiming to become an annual event and is designed as a platform for the future international concepts and collaborations. Midsummer Scene is a project of the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, and it is a joint production with Brilliant Events, Dubrovnik and Honey-tongued Theatre Productions Ltd. London.

In its first year, the Festival opened at an important milestone: 450th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth. Dubrovnik joined the world celebrations of this important year by staging one of the Bard’s most beloved comedies: ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The production was a commercial and artistic success and has greatly enriched the cultural offerings in the tourist pre-season.

Festival Midsummer Scene coincides with the beginning of summer, in the last days of June and thus leads into the main tourist season. When Dubrovnik becomes a cultural centre of Croatia and South Eastern Europe.
