The ‘Honeymoon Traveler’ Amazing Couple: One Year, One Drone, 48 Countries. And, of course, Dubrovnik!

Honeymoon Travelers is a name behind the amazing blog about, well… Traveling, honeymoon, and two people in love – Mariko and Kaz Yamaguchi, who decided to go around the world for one year and make their journey really memorable.

That is why they took drone with them. Their Facebook page explains the story and the idea very simply and briefly:

One-year honeymoon trip around the world. With A Drone!

…and that is why Just Dubrovnik team contacted them for the short interview. Here’s what they’ve shared with us in this short, but amazing story!

What inspired you to go around the world with a drone for an entire year?
We thought a one-week honeymoon wasn’t enough. We also wanted to make a story which we could talk about and remember forever. We didn’t plan to bring a drone in the first place, but we saw some beautiful aerial footage taken by a drone on YouTube and thought it might be cool to take it with us.

How many countries are you visiting?
We’re in our 46th country, Mexico. We plan to go to Belize and Guatemala after this so its gonna be 48 in total!

What was the most exciting, the most beautiful, and the worst country to visit?
That’s a really hard question. But if I had to pick one for each, I would say Ethiopia as both exciting and worst, Norway as the most beautiful. Ethiopia was exciting, meeting the ethnic tribes, really couldn’t believe how their tradition and way of living hasn’t changed even to this day. BUT, we had lots and lots of hassles, bunch of people trying to get more money out of you. The guys who called themselves ‘local guides’ were the worst, asking for all kinds of fees which don’t exist. Norway was beautiful, super expensive but very sophisticated. The northern lights was also an amazing thing to see.

There are two very famous Ghibli movie called ‘Kiki’s delivery service’ and ‘Porco rosso’ which were based in Dubrovnik and / or Croatia. That’s probably the biggest reason why Dubrovnik is a very popular destination for Japanese tourists

And now the answer we are really interested in – what are your impressions about Dubrovnik and Croatia in general?
Beautiful cities along the coast line. Didn’t have time to go to much places, wished we could see the spring version of Plitvice lakes (we went during the winter season so we couldn’t really see the green beautiful lakes). Has both the west and east European vibe .(Lots of places to see but not too touristic) and people are really kind. The owner lady) of the hostel in where we slept in Dubrovnik was so far the best during this trip (hostel called Anchi Guesthouse).

What is it like to film Dubrovnik’s Old Town with drone (breathtaking, we know…)? :)
There are two very famous Ghibli movie called ‘Kiki’s delivery service’ and ‘Porco rosso’ which were based in Dubrovnik and / or Croatia. That’s probably the biggest reason why Dubrovnik is a very popular destination for Japanese tourists. In the movie, ‘Kiki’s delivery service’, Kiki flies on a broom above the old town of Dubrovnik. That’s exactly how it felt flying the drone.

Do you plan to return to Dubrovnik?
Of course. We loved to. We definitely want to see the beautiful Old Town again. Maybe next time when we get old and have children!

Take a look at other destinations Mariko and Kaz visited on their amazing web page!
