For many years now the channel that runs between the island of Korcula and the Peljesac peninsula has provided the perfect conditions for wind surfing enthusiasts in the hot summer months. The village of Viganj on Peljesac has become a top destination for water sport fans making the most of the wind the channel offers and will further cement itself as a destination when it host the Windsurfing World Championships in July of this year.
The small village beat off competition that included San Fransisco to be named host, and will welcome between 300 and 500 competitors from across the world from the 8th – 13th July. Local windsurfing club ‘Bofor’ expects the championship to be a success for the village given previous European and national level competitions held in Viganj, decribing the area as providing ‘perfect conditions’. The tournament is set to be a huge boost for the local area’s economy and the Dubrovacka- Neretvansko County which Viganj belongs to as well as excellent advertising for active holidays in the region.
We can’t wait!
