Croatia’s Sandra Perković wins Olympic gold medal in women’s discus throw

Croatia’s athlete Sandra Perković won the Olympic gold in the women’s discus throw at the London Games on Saturday, with her throw of 69.11 metres. The throw of 69.11 metres is the best throw of this 22-year-old girl from Zagreb and the Croatian national record.

Darya Pishchalnikova of Russia snatched the silver with 67.56 metres, and Chinese thrower Yanfeng Li won the bronze with 67.22 metres.

Perković thus secured the 19th Olympic medal for Croatia and this was also the fourth gold medal won by Croatian participants at all Olympic Games they have taken part so far.

At the London Games this was the second medal for Croatia. On Friday Croatia’s team consisting of David Sain, Martin Sinkovic, Damir Martin and Valent Sinkovic won the silver medal in the men’s rowing quadruple sculls.
