Valentine’s Romance In Dubrovnik

Valentine’s Day provides the perfect opportunity to spoil and surprise the one you love once a year, but if stuffed teddy bears and chocolates aren’t your style and you’re looking for a way to knock your partner’s socks off then a mini break to Dubrovnik could be the perfect gift. Dubrovnik is frequently written about and ranked as one of the most romantic cities in the world and the countless proposals and weddings that take place are further testament to the wonderful backdrop the City provides for true love’s story.

If you choose to visit in February, the days are just that bit longer, the streets aren’t crowded and the winter sun recharges one’s batteries. Dubrovnik’s patron saint, St. Blaise, is celebrated in February also. Expect to see huge processions through the Old Town on his feast day with all of Dubrovnik lining the streets to watch. Winter carnival brings fun and jest to the City at the start of the month, with groups  from far and wide taking to the Stradun in masquerade.

Take the opportunity to walk around the city walls for breathtaking vistas, or take the cable car up to Srd for sunset over the City. The botanical gardens at Trsteno provide a stunning backdrop for a walk and Konavle has a host of traditional restaurants with rustic interiors. If you’re both wine lovers then a trip to Pelješac is recommended, some of the best wine growers in the country have their vineyards on the peninsula. Discover the City’s rich history at the various museums and galleries, or simply soak up the atmosphere drinking coffee in the Old Town.
