A Scenic Street Near the Old City
Uz Posat Street, one of the picturesque approaches near Dubrovnik’s Old City, is set to receive a greener and more elegant new look.
The City of Dubrovnik has launched a public procurement procedure for the project “Drvored – Zeleni prsten oko Grada”, which aims to restore and enhance this recognisable street and its surrounding public spaces.
For many locals and visitors, Uz Posat Street is more than just a route around the historic centre. It is one of those quieter city corners where stone, greenery and views come together, offering a slightly different perspective of Dubrovnik.
Bringing Back the Green Belt
The project covers the steps along Uz Posat Street, the viewpoint, the continuation of the green terraces and the area leading towards Kapelica and Zagrebačka Street.
The main idea is to bring back the former charm of this part of the city, with a special focus on greenery. Existing vegetation will be preserved, while new planting will add more structure, shade and visual harmony to the space.
The plan includes the restoration of 11 Canary Island palms, the planting of 24 Washingtonia palms and the addition of 22 Pittosporum trees. Together, they should create a more recognisable green belt around the Old City, in keeping with the historic character of the area.
Small Interventions, Big Difference
Along with the planting, the project includes several conservation-based repairs and improvements to the public space.
Part of the concrete surfaces on the viewpoint and the landings towards Kapelica will be removed, while all works will follow the principle of minimal intervention. The goal is not to change the character of the street, but to make it more beautiful, more comfortable and better maintained.
New urban equipment is also planned, including benches, a drinking water fountain and discreet lighting designed to blend into the historic surroundings.
Respecting Dubrovnik’s Historic Setting
All works will be carried out in line with conservation guidelines, with the aim of preserving and improving the cultural and historical value of the area.
The estimated value of the project is 320,000 euros excluding VAT, while the deadline for submitting bids is 2 June 2026. According to the current plan, works are expected to begin at the end of June.
For Dubrovnik, this is a small but meaningful urban project — one that could return a sense of care, greenery and quiet charm to Uz Posat Street, just steps away from the Old City.
