Cosi fan Tutte Open Air @ Dubrovnik Summer Opera

With the departure of the Julian Rachlin and Friends Festival from Dubrovnik’s cultural scene last year many were left wondering whether anything or anyone could fill the hole left by the world class musician and his celebrated concerts. Good news has arrived in the form of Dubrovnik Summer Opera which will bring musicians and performers from all over the world to Dubrovnik’s beautiful Old Town as part of the renowned Dubrovnik Summer Festival (DSF). The performances mark the return of world class opera to Dubrovnik and its recognition as a unique stage.

Under the artistic direction of Oliver Gilmour and produced by Miso Mihocevic, Dubrovnik Summer Opera aims to, ”touch audiences’ hearts and souls by integrating the greatest operas with the sublime beauty of the medieval city of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea.” To mark Croatia’s historic accession to the EU, Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte will open the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

Performances will take place in the park of the Art School in the Old Town providing a wonderful open air stage under the summer sky. Sally Burgess will direct the production, one of the world’s leading operatic actresses, she will be assisted by Dubrovnik actor Robert Boskovic. Collaboration with celebrated Croatian designer Matija Vuica for costume design is set to make the production (which will be new DSF Director Kreso Dolencic’s first play) a memorable one.

Eight of the company’s soloists hail from foreign countries and will perform along side Croatia’s Nikolina Pinko, Matija Meić and Giorgio Surian, who has performed all over the world to much acclaim. Performances will be held on July 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th, with tickets on sale, demand is expected to be high so get your while you can. Keep posted on all things cultural at www.justdubrovnik.com
