A relaxed spring mix in and around the city
This weekend in Dubrovnik brings exactly the kind of mix spring does well — a little music, a little theatre, some time outdoors and a few local events that make the city feel lively without ever feeling rushed.
From a Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra concert and a 10K race in Rijeka dubrovačka to theatre at Marin Držić, a spring gathering in Primorje and a classic car rally on Pelješac, the programme feels varied, local and easy to slip into, whether you are planning the whole weekend or just looking for one good reason to head out.
Friday begins with music
The weekend opens on Friday, April 17, with a concert by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra at the Franciscan church at 8:15 pm. With Pavle Zajcev conducting and Anđelko Krpan on violin, the evening programme includes works by Mozart, T. Uhlik and Beethoven. It is also part of the wider Dubrovnik Musical Spring series.
Saturday adds movement
For those who prefer something more active, Saturday, April 18, brings the Rijeka Dubrovačka 10K in Komolac. The route runs Komolac – Stara Mokošica – Komolac, with the race starting at 10 am.
It is one of those events that works even if you are not taking part. The setting is local, the mood is outdoorsy and the whole thing has the easy energy of a spring weekend in motion.
Pelješac brings vintage style
Also on Saturday, attention turns to Pelješac, where Ston hosts the 4th Oldtimer Rally dedicated to Celestin Medović. Around 80 classic cars are expected to take part in a three-stage route across the peninsula, starting at 10 am from the Komarna rest area on the Pelješac Bridge.
The route continues through Kuna, Oskorušno, Potomje, Putniković and Ponikve, before finishing in Ston, where the final vehicle exhibition will be held on the main square from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. Among the models expected are a rare Opel-Irmscher Omega EVO500, a Ferrari 348 and a Rolls Royce Cabriolet, which gives the event an added layer of visual appeal beyond the drive itself.
Theatre carries through the weekend
If your idea of a good evening involves a stage rather than a starting line, the Marin Držić Theatre has “The House Is Big, She Can’t Stand It” scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 8 pm, with another performance on Sunday, April 19, also at 8 pm.
That gives the weekend a steady cultural thread and a good indoor option after a day spent out in the city.
Sunday turns towards Primorje
On Sunday, April 19, the focus shifts beyond the city centre with Spring in Primorje, taking place at Mrčevo Pond in Mrčevo.
Set just ahead of Earth Day, the event brings a spring atmosphere to the wider Dubrovnik area and adds a softer, more local note to the weekend. It is the kind of programme that suits anyone in the mood to step outside the usual city rhythm and see a more grounded side of the region.
A weekend that feels easy rather than crowded
What makes this weekend appealing is not one huge headline event, but the overall balance. A concert on Friday, a race on Saturday, theatre across the weekend, a classic car gathering in Ston and a spring event in Primorje, it all adds up to a programme that feels varied without being overwhelming.
For visitors, that means Dubrovnik this weekend is less about rushing from one major event to another and more about choosing what suits your mood best. And in spring, that may be the nicest kind of weekend there is.
